Selby Contract Flooring

Solving your flooring problems

September 4, 2014

Here at Selby, we like to help. We’ve had over 50 years of experience, and in that time we’ve seen and done an awful lot. Helping our customers find the right flooring for the job is something we’re great at, and we’ve been doing it a lot over the last month.

So when a head teacher in Enfield came to us needing to reduce the noise levels in the school, we were only too enthusiastic to find a solution. His school has concrete corridors with curved walls. It looks great, but it’s not easy to fit around curves, and the head needed something to soften the cacophony of hundreds of pupils. We laid carpet tiles down the corridors, all cut to shape and size, which transformed the stark look and will considerably reduce noise levels.

We used impact entrance tiles in every doorway – Fernlea 553 heavy contract carpet tiles - which help withstand the enormous amounts of traffic from the feet of hundreds of students and also reduce noise. With health and safety concerns paramount, we also used black-diminishing strips in doorways to prevent trips.

In the entrance hall, we overlaid the brick flooring (and it’s great acoustics!) with carpet tiles to make a warm, welcoming and peaceful entryway. The school was delighted with the results and is now hoping to raise extra funds to refurbish other areas in the building. Check out these before and after shots to see how the corridors turned out:

We also problem solved for a Wandsworth School when they wanted to refurb the weights area of their gym. Due to the nature of the floor space, they needed flooring which would be heavy-duty but soft and safe. We suggested our Munro extra heavy duty indoor and outdoor spike/skate and stud resistant smooth surface rubber safety flooring, which has high underfoot warmth and is also sound absorbent. Problem solved!

But if you know what you want and how you want it, we are always up for those challenges too! In Fitzroy Square London, we worked on a £17m house using our Cormar Sensation range. It was four floors of the mansion, and they certainly knew the look they wanted to create. We were delighted with the high-spec result.

But whatever your budget and whatever your problem or specification, one thing doesn’t change – we are always happy to help!
